The Webtutor Magazine is an online magazine devoted to internet technology for teaching and learning. Regular features include articles on Web Pedagogy associated with e-learning, Web Publishing technology for teaching and learning, and Web Applications for enhancement of online teaching materials.

Web Pedagogy

There are two tyopes of internet technology for teaching and learning. One supports online discussion and collaboration for interactive internet learning. The other supports the deployment of online learning materials - for didactic internet learning.

Both are described as e-learning or online learning and we argue that both should be constructive.

Web Publishing

Having designed some online learning material you have to publish it on the web. You can do so on a web page, a blog or a youTube video clip. Here is how to do it with a website.

You may have to pay for a web hosting service and a domain name unless these are provided by your college or your Internet Service Provider, that is, your ISP.

Web Applications

Adobe Flex is a development environment for Flash applications. If you are a teacher or a student you can get a free copy of Flash Builder, which is actually Flex.

You can download the trial version of Flash Builder from the Adobe website and get a free educational license that converts it to a full installation. Then try the examples published in this magazine.

Flex Slide Show

This is a short example of a Flex program to produce a simple graphics presentation system. It can be used online, for internet teaching or, alternatively, to support a 'real' personal presentation. You can easily modify it to meet your own needs.

The program is written in MXML code which is very easy to use.

Software

Here is some free Flash software for online presentations. You can use it for conference and tutorial presentations, both real and virtual.

Just add your own content.

This is an example of the kind of learning support materials you can produce with Flash.

For the time being, all the articles published in The Webtutor Magazine are produced in-house but the intention is to open the magazine to contributions from other sources. The Webtutor Magazine is published by Webtutor Ltd, London, UK. If you would like to contact Webtutor you can do so here.
